Hi all, this thread is a place for the reporting of Stolen Segways and any other pertinent information. Information such as time, location, model, serial number, and any other pertinent information regarding a stolen segway.

If posters want to respond to or discuss matters regarding any posted stolen segways, please start a 2nd thread quoting the initial stolen segway post from this thread. The reason for this is to not allow this Sticky Thread to get excessively lengthy with ancillary posts.

This thread is intended to be a repository / log of information on missing units. Thank you for your understanding and participation.

I have added two recent postings on stolen Segways below.

Please add your own.

Just a reminder that we are still looking for our two stolen i167's with the serial numbers 02239100066 and 022391000680. We have reported them to Segway, Inc. and listed them here several weeks ago. It might be a good idea to have a thread for stolen machines that we can all refer to just incase the rats try to part out the machines or try to get keys made.
This community has lots of eyes and since it is one of our strengths we should play on it. Thieves are not good for anyone and I have a reward for any information that will lead to the recovery of our machines and the prosecution of the perpetrators.
Let's keep our eyes open...and, oh yes,...lets be careful out there!

From The DCSEG chat site

Hi everyone,

Our red and yellow i180s were stolen from our garage Thursday night. We still
have all the keys, and have notified Segway LLC so no new ones can be made, but if anyone has any info about them we'd really appreciate it. We live near 16th and Military Road in DC. Bob and Laura Wolverton

To date these machines have not been found.

We just had a local DCSEG Member whose warehouse in Gaithersburg Maryland was brooken into. And one of the items taken was his I-170. He used the Segway to get around the warehouse. I have not gotten the Serial Number of it yet. This happened over the Feb 10 2007 Weekend.

I had a call for replacement keys this morning that i feel is suspicious. The caller said he bought an i-167 from a friend who bought it at a swapmeet or something. He has no keys, no key code and does not know who the original owner is. I told him to call me with the registered owner's name and then I can help him.

The serial number is 042171008890.

May be straight OK, but be aware!

When handling inquiries that might involve stolen segways, do dealers go the extra mile and contact all the other dealers in the area (thus making the thief take the stolen segway to the next major city to even have a chance of getting keys made)? What about calling Segway INC and passing on the serial number information? I'm curious just how much of a network of protection segway dealers give us owners.

ps - Of course, the first line of defense is OWNERS getting their segways registered at Segway INC. I've registered both of mine!

We handle it a bit differently.

When we get a call for a key, we say, 'sure, bring it in to us, we will make a key on the spot'.

When they do so, we tell them that it will take an hour, so please go get a cup of coffee, and come back in an hour.
This gives us time to check it out, and then take appropriate action.

I can't imagine any genuine owner having a problem, with our tactic.

We have identified and recovered one machine that way with 1, 'hmmm', non-genuine owner.

Sweet.

Would be nice to get INC. to notify ALL dealers worldwide to administer that policy as standard dealer-protocol.

One of our Segway XT's was stolen together with a van an promotion equipment.
It was accompanied only with the black key, so soneeone will probably try to get a hold of a red replacement key..

Our red i180 Segway was stolen from our garage in Calgary in the wee hours of the morning of July 1st. Serial # 05221014118.

Fortunately, the thief did not get the keys. Unfortunately our homeowner's insurance claim for it has been denied by Cooperator's. They say it is classified as a "motorized vehicle" and thus is not covered. Better check your own policies.

We bought the Segway as a mobility aid for my wife who has MS. Mobility aids such as electric scooters are covered for theft. I guess I don't really see the distinction. We will be filing a complaint with the insurance company.

Scott,

When you file your claim, point out that it:
1.) Is not a motor vehicle, it is an EPAMD and functions much like the mobility aid scooters.
2.) There is no Vehicle ID Number (VIN) as required for motor vehicles.
3.) There is no registration required.
4.) It is used on sidewalks and bike-paths/lanes not streets.
5.) No drivers license is required.
6.) Ask if bicycles are covered by homeowners policies.

Admittedly, I was lucky enough to have CA recognition of EPAMD's, but that was enough to satisfy my insurance company and get it covered under my homeowners policy. Once the specialist agreed, I asked that this be added as a note to my policy, which they did.

Good luck!

Well, according to some states laws, the Segway is excluded from the definition of motor vehicle...

You might want to check the regulatory laws in your area and if that is the case, fight the insurance comopany.

Best of Luck

In some states, there are. As of yet, there are no segway laws one way or the other in Alberta, Canada, where this theft took place.

Well, I don't know where to start ..............

I am getting really pi#$ed when I hear about these low life people stealing someones property, and thinking the so called wealthier dude did deserve so.

We all work hard for our stuff and do not deserve that ANYBODY takes out well earned possessions from us.

So to make the point, we do NEED a better network of controlling our SEGWAYS and the proof of ownership somehow.

How about we start a parallel private database we can all register our Segways that is accessible for owners and buyers ?

Or even better, we do it like Microsoft and have to update our software every 30 days, LOL.

Just a thought.

Taken off the Bay Area SEG mailing list:
Keep an eye out for my segway.
It was stolen out of my truck in SF during diner with NZ on Sunday.
It was a yellow i180 with just the turn grip and black and grey
replacement fenders.
If someone spots this segway, sleepy or I can alert the owner. (I would have put the owner's email address here, but I'm not sure if he wants that publicly displayed. If you have access to Bay Area SEG mailing list, then you can get it off of that and directly contact the owner.)

To answer the usual questions, the serial number wasn't posted, I doubt the keys were with it and finally knowing the owner I'd expect the segway to be registered at Segway INC in his name.

ps - Of all the sticky's in this sub-forum, I'd think this is the one sticky that should be left on the main forum so that everyone sees it. Otherwise information like this gets buried and not read in a timely fashion.

My 6 yo segway was stolen yesterday on the campus of St. Joe's U in West Philadelphia. It was the first Segway in the area. Of course, the thief does not have the keys or the charger, so it is useless to him so far. I am still looking for my original purchase info so I can post the ID number in this forum(I have it somewhere!!?!).please all dealers be on the lookout for an original model with no keys and no charger. Thanks!

Have you notified INC yet? No dealer will provide keys without checking the registration with the company. You should have an email waiting for them when the arrive Monday morning if you haven't already notified them. If you bought from a dealer, they should have a record of your serial number. Good luck.

My i2 was stolen at a Flying J truck stop in South Carolina around 15 miles south of the state border on 4/30/08. By now, the i2 could be anywhere in the country.

i2 serial # is 072131028995

I should appreciate it if anyone requesting a new key had it couriered to him by his local police department.

Thanks,

Sorry to hear. Those good ol' boys need to be rehabilitated -- with a shotgun. Questions:

Did you report to INC? Every dealer needs to go through them to get the code.
How was it stolen? Did you have it locked?
No surveillance cameras at Flying J?

2008 X2 W/ A CUSTOM 1 PIECE SKID PLATE, TURF TIRES, CARGO MOUNTS, ACC. BAR, AND A DMI PICKUP ON THE RIGHT SIDE.
SER # 082121040373
It was stolen Aug. 16th on Eagle rd. by 476 north of us 1, Springfield township. I used my segway for work doing utility surveys. The bike lane stoped so I laided it down in tall grass next to the pole thinking nobody could see it. Walked 3 poles down hill, when I came back it was gone. 5 minutes at the most. Now some scumbag has a 120 lb anchor with no info key.
Made out a police report, and it is on the nation wide stolen vehicle notice. Called segway, and printed up reward posters with picture, posted all over the neighborhood. Still no luck.[/:(]

Hello All,
This is my first posting.
I found a Ninebot abandoned and unsecured in Georgetown, Washington DC. I don't know what model it is. It is missing the external battery and front wheel. the left side thumb lever is missing. It sat on the curb on November 6th 7th. I grabbed it because heavy overnight rains were expected on the 7th. If you own this, tell me your serial number. If it matches we can arrange pickup. Happy to have original owner get this back.
:)
