My other hobby (for those who know me, this is no surprise) is origami. I was recently introduced to the work of a wonderful woman from the Netherlands - Not quite origami, this is really paper architecture, but it's wonderful, nonetheless.

Wow, these are incredible! It appears that they are cut from one sheet of paper, folded, and "pressed out" to build the structures. Is this what she does?

Thanks for the link. Great to admire, but I won't be trying this myself any time soon. Way too much work and artistic eye for me.

Yes, exactly. That's what makes it so interesting. I don't think I could do it, either.

Very nice, with a 3-D Escher-esque touch.

Wow those are awesome. That takes some real 3-d thinking. I like that. Don't know if I could do it. I can write upside down and backwards on paper at the same time. You have to hold it in a mirror upside down. It really looks like jibberish otherwise. Sal this one is for you, did you see it?

Ken, I didn't see that one... thanks!!!

I also love "ambigrams" in the vein of the escher-esque works from the initial artist...

I also like ambigrams. Didn't know what they were called, but I like to draw them. The one that sticks out in my mind is the heart pattern that is drawn on the Sweetheart straw wrapper. Then you try drawing triangles and patterns that are identicle upside down or backwards. I know what subliminal stuff is too. I like the movie "Lookers"?, I think its called. Or was it "Watchers". Anyway it was a cool movie. Its where advertising producers were using a subliminal blue dot to distract you and trance you to look at the subliminal images to do or buy their stuff. I know they were using this stuff years ago in movie theaters, to get you to buy popcorn and candy from the snack bar. Its amazing.

I also like David Blane. I saw a couple of his specials. The one where he stood on top of a pole or something for a long time, and clips of his being submerged in the fish bowl thing and his majic acts. I like the one where he would make himself rise off the ground. Albeit it was an illusion, it was still cool. I saw how it was done and tried it. After a few tries and the right perspective it looks real. I think the thing with the fish bowl almost got the best of him.

This may sound funny, to you or whoever, but I like chasing rainbows. I saw a double rainbow once in Florida along the highway and thought that, was so cool. I got a picture here somewhere of it. I have seen where both ends touch the earth, but there is no "Pot of Gold" there, believe me.. I know you can't catch them but I'd like to somehow be able to stand in the center of one where it touches the earth and see how everything looks and feels inside it. Ever wonder about that? I wonder if it can be done scientifically in a lab or something. I think that would be a really neat trick, if it can be done.

I stumbled across this site this morning and thought it sort of fit given the unconventional methodology and media of the art.
