Segway with 7000 miles for sale
Hi,
Is it good or bad this mileage ? Someone have this for sale for low price, and I am not sure. I know of corse about battery problems, and Pivot problems, and elastomers problems. Does any one have a segway with much higher mileage and did not have other problems? Thanks, |

If the price is right I would go for it....Sounds like a rental unit?... I have read here many have 10 to 20k miles on theres....You have a great understanding of what fails most often.... Good luck in your decision.... |

One data point with more Miles
My SEG i2 is approaching 5-years old and has 8,900 miles .
Have not experienced any of the “battery problems, and Pivot problems, and elastomers problems” you referenced. Batteries of course are starting to show their age as the travel range drops off more quickly (as the fall/winter temperatures get colder) then they did in the early years of usage. The mileage itself should not be a major concern. Like any used purchase, buyer beware. Test glide, ask the seller questions, and use good sense. Good Luck . . . let us know what you decide and how it works out. |

not yet decided
I have heard that first i2 models (year 2007) have less failures than newer models of i2.
Does any one agree with this state ? How do you know that "elastomers" are not good? what you should feel while riding the segway ? Thanks, |

I also have had no problems with it. I did replace the elastomers a few years ago, but they were still serviceable, just worn. Other than that, it has been very good to me. One problem I do have is that the first info keys (I have two) have less functions than the current ones. I cannot set a max speed, as an example. Still, I have not had problems. (I just recalled that I also had the radio board replaced, as the earlier models were temperature sensitive, and had some issues trying to start when cold.) Good luck. I agree with others who said that this, like all sales of used machines, requires you look very carefully at all the data you can find on this unit...

10.000+ on mine . . .
10,000+ miles on my 2006 X2 and have only had normal situations; radio board to correct cold starting issue that really didn't fix it, new upgraded MTO batteries (great deal and very happy), two (2) sets of tires and multiple InfoKeys (the internal spring system sucks). Now I need to replace handlebar grips but that's about it. Elastomers, basic platform mechanics have not been a problem.
My experience and from reading SegwayChat is that the more one uses/glides; the better the machine and the condition of the LiIon's. Having it sit with less than 1,000 miles after 3-5 years is probably a worse copy than one that has been used frequently. Also at 7,000 miles, batteries are a concern; though batteries are always a concern with Segs. MTO solves that easily though if you want to Glide. Good Luck and enjoy your Glides!!!!!! |
