Think I got a bad minipro
Got this guy home a few hours ago, unboxed and attempted to follow the instructions...
Powered it on for the 1st time and this guy started to spin its wheels and almost escaped my grip!!! I thought that was interesting. Continued to follow the startup details, installed app, connected via Bluetooth. Tried standing on it a few times but there is no self balancing happening. Got off it several times and tried to inspect things... did I miss something? There's 1 lon b beep followed by 8 short beeps. I'm doing this in my living room. Now there are several tire skid marks where this guy tries to take off with me holding on to it (wife will be pissed). There's a message something like "your segway is tumbling..." I think I got a bad one, what do you think? Thanks Ken |

Hmm. Perhaps a firmware upgrade is needed. Is that even possible considering what it's doing? My MiniPro will be here on Thursday. I'll have to make sure I have it off the ground the first time I fire it up. Sounds like a squirrelly little machine. I'm glad my full-size Segways haven't taken off like wild ponies. They could do some damage.

Presumably, this device has "rider detect switches" - which may have gotten stuck in the "detected" position, or been mis-wired or defective? So, it thinks someone is standing on it.
Worth checking. |

After convincing myself it was the mini pro and not me, I returned it to Sam's Club and exchanged it for a different one. This one works just fine. That one was dangerous, I tried a few times to stand on it, I was lucky I didn't hurt myself or do more damage to my home Interior. Wife still hasn't noticed the two black marks on the wall but she did see some skid marks that I unsuccessfully cleaned up off our laminate floor.

Look Into These
Disclaimer. I don't have any miniPro experience. Have reviewed the User manual. For your specific out-of-box issues: Page 7 of manual says step 1 is to load the smart phone app. Step two is power-on miniPro. Your write up suggests you powered-on before having the App available for the miniPro to communicate with. Perhaps that has caused the controller to get into one of the special operation modes. 1) Special Operation Mode “A”, Remote Control Mode. Page 12 of manual. Maybe the control is stuck in R/C mode. Try using App to cycle R/C on-off. 2) Special Operation Mode “B”, Power Assist Mode. Page 13 of manual. Perhaps during assembly the 'Guide Bar' got pulled up into Power Assist Mode and/or the switch (control logic) is stuck. Try pulling up, pushing down on Guide Bar to cycle and clear the switch. 3) Troubleshooting. Segway web-site says the miniPro App has a troubleshooting guide. See if the beep sequence you noted and/or the "Segway is tumbling" message meaning. Good Luck! 10,150 Segway i2 Miles |

miniPro Surprises
Quote:
While reviewing the manual also found these: A) Do not ride through puddles or other bodies of water. Do not get wet. What, not get wet? So much for using in the rainy northwest. B) Do not use Power Assist Mode for going up stairs. Carry it instead. Well the minPro is only 28 pounds vs. the i2 105 pounds. But still seems an odd restriction. All-in-All am glad to be gliding with an full size i2 . . . . |

The tires are non-marking but right out of the box they have some coating on them that rubs off.
I ride mine 99% indoors and have not seen any marks other than right out of the box. |

I thought I had posted an update to this issue but now I don't see it...
Anyway, Here's an update: Although I did pair the miniPro with the MiniPro. I'm sure I did it both by having the cell phone on and app loaded both before and after powering on the miniPro. Anyway, I returned this unit back to Sam's Club and exchanged it with another unit. This one works as I expected. I was hesitant to return it at first because I wasn't sure that I was doing something wrong but once I made the decision it was the miniPro and not me, I rushed back to get it exchanged. I was going to be leaving town in 2 days and the sooner I got this sorted out the better. I'm glad I did because the replacement is working just fine. I have had several rides and I've exceeded the initial training period. Since I'm still a new rider, I'm not 100% comfortable at max speed but I'm sure that will come with more time onboard. I'll have to search online to get some more riding tips. thanks everyone, I look forward to your expertise. |

How long have you had the MiniPro? I LOVE my i2 but couldn't resist ordering a MiniPro at sale price. Is your MiniPro collecting dust? I wanted to get one simply for the portability. Lifting my i2 into the back of the car is tough (as I am partially paralyzed.) After riding the i2, I'm guessing the MiniPro will feel like a toy.
