Default Battery lights while on charge

Been cold in West TN and Segway instructions are quite clear as to operating and charging temps. Brought units inside and let them warm to room temp. Started charging and shortly one unit is flashing green for forward battery and steady red for rear. Owner's manual says do a Bill Gates: remove and refit battery. I did this and it worked! All happy blinking battery lights! Can someone explain why this works?

Default Most likely - minor corrosion

The removal and replacement process provides a bit of abrasion to the terminals that monitor and pass the charging current to the batteries. This minor abrasion/wiping cleans the terminals enough for adequate voltages to be passed to the battery monitor system.

If the problem recurs, you may want to apply some electric contact cleaner to the connectors to provide some protection from future corrosion.

Doing this removes power to the CU board(s) inside the machine. Sort of like unplugging your computer or modem.

What do you think of using dielectric grease on these battery connectors? I have used it on auto and motorcycle connectors for years preventing bad contact and corrosion. Ford has been using it for about 15 years in their vehicles.

I recommend that you do not use anything on these connectors. Doing so would further attract dust and debris. Car battery terminals are totally different and dielectric grease is great for that application.
