The hitch hauler is a pretty simple shelf for the segway, that fits into a tow hitch receiver. It retailed for a few hundred dollars, and took/takes very little setup or modification to the car. You load it by tilting the platform and the segway, and while easy to use, it also requires you to stoop to strap it on to use the levering action to lift the segway to transport position.

The segvator is an elevator that drops to the ground, allows the segway to come on board, then lifts it to a transport position, holding it in place pretty much automatically. Retail on the segvator is at least 3 times that of the hitch hauler, and it can also come with options like an inverter to charge the segway as you drive. It requires a similar tow hitch receiver like the other, but also a significant power source hooked up to the car battery. This power is both for the lift and the inverter.

There are certain distinct advantages to the segvator over the hitch hauler. Once installed, it is much easier to haul your segway with. There is no bending or stooping or dealing with straps. This is a real advantage if you are mobility impaired.

I do not know the exact details, but the company that makes segvators is very very supportive of Segs-4-Vets. This means that the profits on the sale of this device will go to support a very good cause.

I suspect that either item will have to come from a dealer or private sale of a used item. I do not believe that either device is available directly from the manufacturers.

Good luck. Keep us posted on your search and final solution.

I understand your first reason, however the SegVator actually can be used and or bought in Single Seg mode.

I concur. A segvator can easily be set up for one or two segways. (No tools, the switch from one to two and back is easy and quick)

One other advantage of the segvator is that I believe it can fold up flat to the back of the vehicle when it has no segway on it. (I do not think a hauler can do this)

I still think that either item when purchased new has to go thru a segway dealer.

Used is a different story.
