Segway i180 button keys
Hi,
Is any one familiar with these keys?, I have few questions: 1. I understand that the company can create new keys according to chassis number, however if I have one RED key working, will the new set (RED, YELLOW, BLACK) disable my old key ? 2. I seen in NET that these key can be duplicated with reader/writer however I understand that I need to have something like "base code" which is only in yellow key? is this correct? 3. Does the keys has built-in battery (seen in DALLAS site that some of the keys has battery) - is this key with battery?, can this battery stop working after few years? If any one know some of the questions please answer Thanks, Roee |

Hope this helps
I'll try with a few answers.
1. If the factory makes a new set for you, it will not disable you current red key. If you have a currently working key (any color) several of the local dealers as well as the factory can read the code off a working key and make a new key or new set of key's. 2. Yes to the part about the key code (base code). It" the code" can be read from any working key not just the yellow key. It also came in a print out version with the original purchase. 3. There is NO battery in the i-button key. Key's will not "go bad" with time. Because of an desire to prevent thief's from getting new keys most kkey makers will want proof that you are the legal owner. Hope you got a bill of sale when you bought it or the original owner notified segway it was sold to you. Last edited by MagiMike; 09-16-2014 at 01:13 PM.. |

When you measure the voltage - on a button key you see zero, so I suppose there is a special sequence to wake battery up See attachments Thanks, R |

The proper ibutton for a Segway is DS1993L-F5. That's a 4KB part. The DS-1992L-F5 will actually work - it's a 1KB part, but that's enough capacity for the Segway key. Those parts do not look at all like your pictures (no black case - all metal), but I have never disassembled a DS1993L-F5 to see whether it has a battery inside. Here's a link that shows a good picture: http://www.embeddeddatasystems.com/D...FWho7AodnmwAOA Of course, there may be other part numbers that will work correctly - I'm just stating that DS1993L-F5 is the OEM part. In any case, I am confident that the Segway is not "saving some data during the ride" on the key. |

I stand corrected
Picture me surprised. Guess I'm not to old to learn something new.
Thank you for teaching me. |

Right you are. I'm not really sure what that battery is doing, since this is non-volatile memory. It's interesting that the specification sheet says (about the battery):
"if the lithium is exhausted for any reason, the ROM can still be read normally." Apparently, the battery is only needed if you are changing the contents - because of the two-step programming process. |

i180 key copy
Hi,
OK this is working under Windows 8 without any problems! I did not copy the keys yet - since I did not get the empty keys yet, but I can read the keys and actually see the 16 HEX "code" of the key for example: F6 00 00 00 3A 47 AA 06 BTW as you can see and I seen in many keys there are a 6 zeros, and I seen this in many keys, so probably many of the owners (I guess) have these 6 zeros - if any one has his key please approve that I am right about this. Also there is more data to copy (few pages) but this is the secret code key R |

Hello,
1. No, your old key will still work. 2. I believe as long as you have any key you are able to copy the key code to another ibutton. I haven't personally done it but have watched dealers do it for me. 3. I am unsure as I never gave it any thought. I can tell you I have original P-133 keys that still work so I assume there is no battery or I would like to think mine would have died by now.

Thanks
Hi,
I bought this one almost for free as parts and fixed it Fortunately the seller gave me set of buttons, one of them works for me As I understand the code is not in the handle but it is written in the chassis boards. But I am not sure if I read the data where it is .... I have seen some ibutton reader/writter and purchased one on ebay, with empty keys type DS1993L which are the one that suitable to this model (I think) this type is not just "serial key" but also hold NVM (memory) that is saving some data during the ride (which is probably for Segway to analyze things) Also there are some SW on the net to write the data, I will try to play with it when I get it --I will update Thanks, R |
