Electric Hoist
Can anyone recommend a brand/type of electric hoist that I could use in the back of amid sized SUV to lift a Seg into the cargo area. I'm not sure how well ramps would work. It seems like the tailgate sticks out and would hit the leansteer.

I had a 2005 Jeep Liberty, and I now have a 2014 Honda CR-V, both with lift up window/tailgate. The Segway ramps work well if you first take off the top section of the leansteer. You also have to run it up the ramps backwards (in riderless balance mode) so that the leansteer has a better chance of not hitting the top before the wheels make it off the ramps. I have two i2s and they take up less room if I tip them over on their sides on one wheel.

I used ramps the about the same way in a Jeep Cherokee. Dan I never got the backwards thing to work. I took the top off, let them climb the ramp, at the top the went off the ramp onto the bumper, at that point I shut them down and hand rolled them into the Jeep. Your way was probably better.

RUSS498,
Here's my solution, it is a ramp. W/ the HitchHaul, you could even haul 2. http://www.flickr.com/photos/davis_b...7635446170074/ |

That is a nice setup, but I was trying to keep the Seg inside away from the weather and thieves. I would like to always have it available for quick use.

I do not own or use such a lift, but have looked into them in the past. Good luck. Keep us posted on what you find.

I agree but until then... Try taking the handle bars off and running it up the ramps backwards. Works for my little Subaru Impreza. I also have a little plywood mini ramp that helps get it up and over the "lip" under the door opening.

I love my Segvator, but let me list the disadvantages for balance.
First, it adds aerodynamic drag. Second, it puts weight very far aft on the vehicle (worse with a dual setup). For a lightweight car, this can impact handling a bit. My biggest annoyance is that, for a low vehicle, you have to be careful about dips in the road (common at driveways). It helps to take them very slowly, and at an angle, so both rear wheels don't end up in the dip at the same time. An occasional scrape doesn't appear to cause any harm.... I've seen an inattentive pedestrian walk into my Sevgator once. It makes your entire vehicle longer, which can make parking a bit more difficult. And people can compound that by parking too close -- I've had to partially pull out of my parking space to load my Segway. But that's rare. All and all, the advantages are well worth the drawbacks.
