Default 'Abilities Expo' - San Jose, CA this weekend

http://www.abilitiesexpo.com/sanjose/

They're coming to many venues in the USA in the next 6 months.

Gonna check this out this weekend and see what's up.

Please tell me some Segway dealer will be there! It sounds neat, but incomplete....

I'll have to check but it is just barely possible I might make it to the Houston show...

Default Abilities Expo

By looking @ the web page it doesn't look like our 2 nearby dealers will be there.
Based upon the vendors list it doesn't look like there are any offering Segway oriented material. I am planning on going, so I hope I can drum up interest in Segway as a viable mobility option for a segment of the population, we'll see.

Unfortunately, my wife is going to be out of town, so I won't be able to go. It'd be cool to meet up.

There's a session on Friday that might be of interest - or rather, a good venue to show off....

1:00pm – 2:00pm
Wheelchair Standers: Stand for Function!
Presented by Magdalena Love, OTR, Clinical Education Specialist, Permobil Inc. with Tiphany Adams, Star, Sundance Channel's Push Girls
Standing is an intervention that has been gaining attention recently. In addition to the physiological benefits of weight bearing (standing), the increase in functional performance that standing provides makes it a desirable feature on a wheelchair base. This session will look at the research supporting standing wheelchairs and will discuss how to use this research to support a consumer's need for a standing wheelchair. Several successful case studies of people using standing wheelchairs (both manual and power) will also be shared

Obviously, we can't have infinite voltage, or the universe would tear itself to shreds, and we wouldn't be discussing Segways.

This sounds like an incredible opportunity for the segway community to gather round and make Segways' disability capabilities better known.
Be sure to display your disability tag even if you don't usually do so.
That will make the point for other attendees of why you are using it.

I've not seen the standing wheelchairs although I've seen photos. Hmmm... I wonder if there is any chance of getting thrown out if you start showing off the Seg's capabilities around these??

I knew a man once who after spinal surgery could either lie down or stand--no in between. He did have use of his arms and about 2" of movement in his feet. When he came to church they placed 2 x 4's on the steps so he could make it up them. A standing wheel chair would have been a Godsend for him. Could he have used a Seg? My first thought was to doubt it, but if he had had a 2 x 4 set of steps to get on it, it is possible.....
