Thanks. That was indeed my point, but airdale is also correct that if an i2 *barely* squeaks by, a wheelchair won't even come close, and I did point out the non-compliance.

Width is also regularly an issue in grocery stores, where when they restock in the evening, they clutter up the aisles. I've been meaning to check the width of a "standard" grocery cart. They're wider than the i2, so if the cart can get through, I have no trouble with the Segway. I'm sure the x2 is wider. I suspect they're right at the ADA width, so they're probably theoretically imposing the same burden on the able-bodied and the disabled.

Except those power chairs they offer you in the stores could only travel the aisles if you use them as bulldozers -- a use they're more suited for than shopping, let me tell you. But they lack the maneuverability of the tank treads, so scratch that application....

In general, you will find a LOT of situations where the ADA requirements are barely met, if at all. The narrow profile of the i2 is a huge advantage.

Obviously, we can't have infinite voltage, or the universe would tear itself to shreds, and we wouldn't be discussing Segways.

On the maiden flight I drove it to the cabin door, they stowed it, and was delivered to the gate by the time I de-boarded the plane. It's no Segway but has a 'when to use a scooter' application if or when the Segway just isn't practical.
I have seen those and been interested. Now I'm even more interested because you wrote this. Though I probably wouldn't spend the money. Another for the "if I win the lottery" list, because then I'd travel by air more often

rickb, how do you fly with lithium batteries? I fly commercial with a P series and am asked once in a while about what type batteries I have but have never really had a problem with airline agents. Now my fenders sometime take a beating, but they gate check my Seg without much hassle.

Violet & Greg.......I just returned from a two week winter vacation using my new TravelScoot. It's no Segway but it worked out perfectly for airline travel and travel in general for that matter. The Li-Ion Battery contains 24 grams of Lithium which is below the upper limit of DOT Regulation. Because of it's compact size and 30# total weight I was able to lift and set it into our rental car and hotel shuttles without issue. I used it for shopping, site seeing, and even took it onto the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway............activities I otherwise would not have been able to experience. It fit the when to use a scooter application perfectly.
