Default What is new about the 2018 Segway miniPRO?

I know that Amazon has lowered the price by $50 on the new 2018 model ($549.99 instead of $599.99), but I cannot find any other information about the new model.

Does anyone know what is different with the new 2018 model of the miniPRO?

Amazon link (2018 model):
https://www.amazon.com/Segway-Minipr...dp/B0749956JC/

For now, it appears that it comes in any color as long as that color is black.

Is it really a 'new model?'

What's the difference between an '07, '08, '09 or '10 Seg I2?

From time to time they do change the paint color . . . . but anything else??

I think it is. The Ninebot-designed products seem to be more like consumer electronics, whereas the Segway-designed products were built more like electric cars.

I would not be surprised to see a new model come out every year, just like the new iPhone comes out every year. This year we actually got three new models (miniPRO 2018, miniLITE and miniPLUS). Not counting the mini-based robotics platform.

It looks like the new model claims 12.5 mile range versus 14 miles claimed by the previous model. New batteries? Less capacity? I know someone swapped out the LG 2850mah batteries for Samsung 3200mah batteries and was getting 20 miles out of the minipro. I might make the change when I have to replace the 18650 batteries (a common/standard design).

It also appears that the 2018 model has squared off fenders. Might be a photo trick. It might also be a change to combat clones of the minipro.

I am glad they are still making the current design as I like the adjustable knee bar as a tall person.

Looking on the Segway website, there are now several minipro models:

miniLITE - 155WH battery (11 mile range)
miniPRO260 - 236WH battery (12.5 mile range)
miniPRO320 - 310WH battery (14 mile range)
miniPLUS - 329WH battery (22 mile range)

I think FAA imposes a 300WH limit on lithium batteries in airline cabins. Been awhile since I looked but I think that is the limit. So, the miniPRO260 and the miniLITE should be permitted in carry on luggage. No lithium allowed in cargo hold so you can't check them but have to carry them with you. Riding down the airplane aisle like a boss!

Maybe the FAA and international regulation is why the miniPRO260 exists (miniPRO with smaller batteries). Look at Segway getting all accommodating to customer needs instead of sitting on their innovation laurels (and patents).

Oh that's interesting; I didn't realize that there were TWO miniPROs now.

On batteries: I believe the limit is 100Wh on batteries (160Wh with airline approval), and up to two spare batteries. But the info I have to substantiate that is a PDF on the FAA website--so it may not be the most current or complete info.

A lot of links go back to that PDF. Now I am not sure where I saw 300WH limits on batteries. It might be related to alternate/other mobility devices for the disabled.

I don't see why they would make the smaller battery version of the miniPRO. It can't save much on the price. Weight seems the same. Has to be a battery limit for something in some country.

Default Software

would software upgrade like 'follow along' be an option. Hopefully, they improve the cell interface as mine only speaks in Mandarin congi now...no English to assist me.
