fuses in battery
Yes,
Short is not a good things. However you have fuse for short circuit inside battery (covered in black case) this fuse is for 30A if I remember correct. You have additional few POLY-FUSES on board - these fuses can connect again if the current through them decreased the fuse level |

But you had Opened the battery casing, there's no protection on the battery block itself, and it's too easy to mistakenly short the battery's nickel plate. lucky Segway's Saphion Lithium Technology provided by Valence will not explode nor it will start a fire by itself, but the thermal runaway will generate huge amount of heat, and it will cause train reaction with the nearby cell block due to the heat, object around the and under the whole cell block might encounter up to 1500F (18650 metal casing appear red)..... Fuse is to protect someone place a metal object into the terminal, that's all. Last edited by Amimoto; 09-23-2014 at 02:10 AM.. |

For the entertainment of the lurkers (althouth this article is about a car battery, there is the same available energy from a Segway battery).
Interesting pictures.... http://www.healio.com/orthopedics/jo...-a-car-battery |

Hello,
I want to know if it is possible to reset the battery bms. I have retrieved the batteries from 10V and 54V to 73,9V but now I have two red lights and my i2 won't boot on. The info key will not connect to my Segway seatly..... |

I really have done many experiments with the batteries, but a reset was not previously necessary. I also do not believe that there really is this "reset". Mostly it is up to the voltage level of 23 cells (or cluster, as always 4 cells are connected in parallel). Even at a terminal voltage of 74V, it can happen that a cell only 2V has have the remaining cells 3.1V -> error situation. I had a battery with a similar error image, the terminal voltage voted extent but a cell had only 1V - red light. I opened the battery and cell balancing manually to the level of other cells. Thereafter, the Segway was no error in operation! Without the battery to open will not go! If one (or more) defective cells are present that have an incorrect voltage level, then can help no BMS reset! In other words, your batteries are probably to be regarded as defective. Whether there anything else is to save it can be said only when the battery has been opened and the individual cells were measured. Sometimes you can save the battery but the capacity will be significantly reduced by the deeply discharge. |
