Replacing Console Trim
Have a used 2007 I2 on the way. It is missing the console trim with the power jack cover. Do I need a version 1 or 2 piece or can either be made to work?
As a first time owner, I am looking forward to mastering the glide. |

But I think the answer is almost certainly that you need the same "version" as your Segway. |

Think I described it quite well. It is shown in all the diagrams as the console trim. It has a small door that covers the charge cord plug-in.
There are two versions listed. Both are on ebay. If you don't have an answer don't reply. Thanks |

I have an early 2006 i2. It obviously came with a center console trim piece that wraps down the back and has a door that covers the charge port.
At some time, that cover piece was changed, and the charge port cover was reversed from hinge on the lower side to upper, or visa versa. (I do not recall) I do not know there were any changes to the cover other than the charge port cover door, or if one cover will fit on a machine that originally came with the other. Good question, OP. Does anyone have a definitive answer?

In short, either will work on a v1 machine...but I'm not sure if a v1 cover would work on a v2 machine (I'm guessing yes, with some Velcro). I'll post some pix in a few... |

Here are some pix…
These are both v2 covers. The far one has been modified to fit a v1 machine. The plastic protrusion/tab on the right side (in this photo) is too long to fit the slot in a v1 machine, so it has to be trimmed down to allow it to seat all the way into position: Segway v2 console cover modified for v1 and unmodified version full view.jpg This is a v1 console. As you can see, I had to add velcro tabs (3 total) in order to hold the modified v2 cover since the v2 cover does NOT have a magnet on the tap to hold it in place (which never worked correctly…that's why they changed the design): Segway v1 console.jpg This is a v2 console. As you can see, there is very little difference at first glance. The difference is, the v1 console has a piece of metal in the slot (for the magnet) and the slot is consequently only about 0.275" deep. The v2 console does NOT have the metal and therefore is about 0.690" deep (thus allowing for the longer tab on the v2 cover). Segway v2 console.jpg As I stated, a v2 cover will work on either a v1 or v2 console, but using it on a v1 console will require cutting the tab back a bit and adding velcro tabs, as shown. It works great on either machine…the v2 cover on a v2 machine stays in place very well, as does a modified v2 cover on a v1 machine (as shown). I suspect a v1 cover would work on a v2 machine by simply adding velcro tabs like I did with the v2 cover for a v1 machine. However…being that the v1 cover did NOT work well (stay in place) on a v1 machine…I'd suggest going with a v2 cover. It will either fit perfectly (meaning you have a v2 machine)…or it won't seat all the way in place (meaning you have a v1 machine) and you will have to modify it…which is a more reliable solution than the v1/v1 design. Hope this helps! |

Great reply there Glideguy, and thanks for the pics, good job. I will order the V2 and get the Dremel charged up. A bottom hinged door certainly makes more sense.
