I saw this response here one time.
"it costs about the same as your monthly cell phone payment."

pretty vague but pretty accurate at the same time.

i2's Retail price in Taiwan is NTD$450,000, Retail price in China is RMB$91,000, so it is USD$14,650, That is the same price as a 2014 brand new Ford Fiesta S Hatchback.

You need to find better place's to shop?

New X2 I paid $6600 free shipping and no tax.... that's more than half of your USD price...

There are no new cars sold in USA that are under $7000 USD...

There is shipping cost + import duty + goods tax + value added tax + then the profit margin become very thin as it is already very expensive.

I run into people all the time in the United States that are unaware just how affordable things are here, compared to many other parts of the world.

Our entire economy and tax structure is different, and it is one of the reasons that some of us are so politically involved, especially when some in our government speak of how we should have government more like other parts of the world.

There are some benefits to this to be sure, but there are also some real draw backs as well.

I prefer the way that the United States has done it in the past, and this is one stark example of one of the costs of being in another part of the world. Sadly, the example above is more common than uncommon. A similar story could be written in most of Europe, and several other countries as well.

All that aside, many of the comparisons of other high tech, or high adventure devices will still hold true. I suspect that jet skis and ATVs are similarly more expensive in many parts of the world as they are here in the United States.

Regardless of the cost, I find that the 'Segway Smile' pretty much works world wide!

Segway smile is absolutely the same world wide, it is just the cutest toy anyone could buy, and it is a practical tool too, it is also the top list of cool toy for the past 12 years.
However when the same question of "how much this thing cost" is asked in Asia, one can imaging the facial expression when they hear the answer, when a electric bicycle cost few hundred dollars in this part of the world

If I'm talking to someone with some age on them or who has expressed an interest in use for disability, I also add that Medicare won't pay for it, but that it has been worth every penny...
As for telling an approximate cost, I let my sense of what the questioner needs to know be my guide. Yes, a lot, but worth every penny is often enough for the casual questioner or the wishful youth...

It really depends on who is asking and their motivation for asking. For those who show an intelligent & sincere interest, I tell them the approximate range - from used to new. But those are in the minority, and my usual response to random questioners is something like "I don't usually discuss what I pay for things", and then refer them to websites for segway, ebay, craigslist, etc.

Some good suggestions. If nothing else, at least I'm glad to know I'm not alone. I like the comparison to recreational vehicles. That's probably the route I would be most likely to take.

My usual answer is "$1500" or "$2100" depending on if I'm riding my gen2 or gen1, respectively.
