I've got an X2-SE with i2 wheels and seem to have hill issues. Going downhill, I get a 'sad face' and limited speed. At greater downhill inclines, the thing can feel pretty unstable. I also encounter other issues going uphill. I guess it's a problem with using X2 with i2 rims.

You may want to ask your dealer to tweak the settings. Old i/x2 devices can't be flashed with opposite firmware. SE models are a lot more flexible. Unfortunately, these have to be done at the dealer level, only RMP based devices can be reprogrammed by end users.

Same here. I've never had any dynamic issues at all.

if you start off with a full charge then go downhill will an x2 burn off extra power as heat in the motor winding's or?

Segways are designed to put a small recharge on the batteries when going downhill (regenerative braking). However, when the batteries are fully charged, they reject being charged further.

if the battery cant take anymore what does it do beyond the power it uses to brake on the downhill?does it heat up other windings?i doubt that it can or even would heat up a battery

It uses energy from the battery to decelerate or maintain a constant downhill velocity.

Exactly how does that work? What physics is being used?

i imagine the motors use the elect in real time not storing it in the battery at all just using it immediately in braking slowing action i really would like to know i didn't buy a chevy volt because the dealer couldn't or wouldn't tell me.i didn't want one if it suddenly went into freewheel mode rather than overcharge
going down my steep 7mil mountain to town i didn't want to burn up car brakes oops off topic=sorry
