Hi Guys.
We are busy finalising the shipping procedures to get the first unit on US soil. If all goes well, Andrew will have a unit before Christmas!

The Segfree has landed at Living Spinal and apparently is available for test rides by appointment. Still unable to get a confirmed price.

Congrats to you bud, I hope it works out great. I currently only need a SegSaddle (seat) with my Segway, but if my condition decays further, I may end up needing a wheelchair option. I would appreciate you keeping us in the loop as to how it works and what you experience. |

Cool. I assume these will be used indoors with the stock as opposed to the ATV tires.
As much fun as those tires are it moves the footprint from "common wheelchair" to "other power driven device". At that point it gives places of public accommodation to much wiggle room to say "not in my building". |

The officials, of course, may not see it that way, but the law does not differentiate. It is not a wheel chair so that comparison does not apply (wheelchairs cannot be denied.). OPDMDs can be denied but only under very specific conditions. The size of the tires is not an environmental issue. Some time back, I asked that question, and the response here was that the wider tires are even more environmentally friendly than the regular ones. If it will work in your building, it is still not an environmental issue. I'm thinking that the issue might arise on the width of doorways, but there are specific rules on that. Are there tires available that are wide enough to make that an issue?

The X2 base with tires is 33 inches wide. By ADA standards, the clear width of a door opening must be a minimum of 32 inches and a maximum of 48 inches.

ADAAG Standard
The actual design standard is for a device with a foot print 30 inches in width 48 inches in length and weighing less than 600 pounds when occupied. For OPDMD's the type of tire may well be a valid reason for denial, i.e. "one which would damage flooring".
