I am unsure if something has changed or if it is simply a defective part but from the customers I have spoken with the charge light goes red at the end of the charge. So, if you are not there to see it and simply plugged it in and walked away you would not be maintaining your batteries. To correct the customers I spoke with had new charging circuitry installed at Segway.

I have never heard anything about this prior to now. I have machines here that we have used timers on for about the past eight years or so and have not had any CSB failures. If you find the information again kindly share, I would certainly be interested in reading it to understand their perspective.

Jason,
I have heard this before, that the best way to store a LiIon battery is with about a 50% charge. I cannot understand how to do this, however. Is there a machine, or can you make a machine, that puts a load on the battery, to bring it down to a certain place, and then keep it there? I recall long ago in NiCad days, you could get a recycling charger, that would drain a battery before charging it, to try to maximize power retainability. I have not heard of a charger like that for a long time. So, is there a modern day Lithium equivalent?

To do this fairly effective you could use the batteries on the Segway until the no load voltage is slightly over nominal pack voltage at approximately 75V. Certainly there are many R/C options for smaller batteries but for batteries this big you really almost need a digital load to get to 50% SOC accurately. Certainly someone could throw some small bulbs in series and add an LVC circuit to cutout at a specific voltage to accomplish the same thing. I think given the special conditions that the Segway application has, storing at 50% SOC is only practical if the batteries are removed from the Segway after being discharged to that point. If left onboard users are likely to get the dreaded red light unless it is closely monitored.

Our newest Battery Reviver, known as our Battery Super Reviver ( BSR ), may assist in this circumstance. By that I mean the BSR may revive the batteries that suffer as a result of this problem. Of course the BSR cannot resolve any issue within the Segway itself. See http://www.dgbint.com/dgb_products.html Cheers Michael www.dgbint.com |

I'll have to say MTO battery also make battery reconditioner too, it's made in USA with proper Segway connector, a simple and effective value for money plug and play reviver.
