Blast from the past... and one of a kind.
I was doing some spring cleaning today and happened upon something kind of fun. This is a print that I've had for quite a number of years. It shows of all the major milestone prototypes leading up to the first i series production PTs. The first two machines are the original Ginger and the machine with multiple personalities, Sybil. Overlaid on top of the print is a sheet of acrylic that has the signatures of all Segway designers and engineers from 2004, when the i170 was released.

My i167 (?) was a good machine for what it was. But when the i2 debuted, I was glad to shed it like a snake's old skin. My i2 is over ten years old now, and I'm now looking forward to owning the i2SE. More welcome improvements to a great machine which I've used for fun transportation for over a decade.
Beyond the financial, it demands a substantial investment in scrupulous training in its operation, and constant awareness of one's environment while gliding. But the rewards are also substantial: significant savings in longer-term transportation costs (can't imagine how many thousands more we would have spent on our second car which we got rid of when we purchased our first PT); a peculiarly special personal freedom of movement not obtainable with any other device; a peculiarly special level of access to one's environment thanks to increased range, speed, and flexibility of movement; and a peculiarly special joy of movement not unlike FLIGHT. It is beyond many people's grasps only because of considerations. Sadly, these considerations seem unchangeable because of the consideration that they are so.
