questions about depleted/dead lithium-ion batteries
What do YOU do with your depleted/dead lithium-ion batteries?
How does one properly dispose of depleted/dead lithium-ion batteries? Does Segway / MTO Battery purchase back depleted/dead lithium-ion batteries? Thanks in advance. be safe, enjoy your glide... Bob Yarbrough the PONY SEAT guy

For the most part the cost of proper shipping is higher than any value they may have. I have far too many to consider buying any Segway lithium batteries.
Here is a page that may also assist. http://www.call2recycle.org/

Frequently, your city or county will have a "household hazardous waste" program. Call the appropriate department and ask.
[There are so many different "environmental" department names that I am not going to suggest what they call it in your city] Also, retailers like Home Depot accept other brands of lithium rechargeable batteries, have "drop boxes", and (presumably) know how to handle them. As a last resort, find the local "Hazmat" team (it will be either police or fire department), and take the batteries to them for advice/disposal. ========== Above is general advice ========= In your particular instance (Hanover County) - from a quick google search: (804) 340-0900 (CVWMA Recycling Hotline) (804) 365-6181 (Hanover County Dept Public Works) Permanent location for electronics waste, CFLs, batteries, used oil, antifreeze; two collection events a year Last edited by dale@thecoys.net; 06-15-2015 at 12:09 PM.. |

I have a dead pair here. I have held onto them, thinking that perhaps I will need to rebuild my current good ones, or maybe need a board from the dead pair, or something like that.
I wonder what the likelihood of ever using a part from that dead set?

Karl,
The likelihood is probably pretty slim since I know you take care of your machine. If the batteries were exposed to moisture, extreme heat, or other conditions which are harmful to circuit boards I would be more concerned. Besides, I have quite a few pallets of them here if you ever need any.
