Switching Batteries
I have a quick question. I'm looking at an XT that was upgraded to Lith Ion batteries. They don't take a charge any longer. I have NiCad batteries available to me. Can I simply install my Ni Cad's to get the machine to operate? Thanks! Bill

I believe this should work, but please be aware that, in most cases, you need different screws to install NiCad batteries than LiIon batteries.

SegNerd is right. Put the NiCads on but use the shorter screws that came with the Nickel batts. The Lith screws are too long.

I am pretty sure that XTs came with Li-ion batteries as standard.
However they 100% do support NiMH ( not Nicad ), they just have less range when NiMH fitted. Pump your tires up a bit. Factory spec was about 4 psi. I liked about 10psi ( except on loose dry beach sand ). Higher pressure will give you a slightly better range. Yes, screws are different. Michael www.dgbint.com |

That would make a 4 mile range for an x with NiMH, and I do not believe that segway introduced any machines with a 4 mile range. Interestingly, they did test with NiCads, and that is what gave them the 100% standard range they started with. They never released any machines with NiCads however. When they did release the first units, they called them 167, because their NiMH batteries gave them 167% of the range of their NiCad test machines. That is what I was told for the original 167 model number... Subsequent model numbers used a different standard. I do not believe that the i170 or i180 had any different range with than i167s.

Can you also use NiCad batteries on an I2 that came with Lith Ion? I have acess to Nicad bats and they would then be allowed on airplanes ?

Segway i2 and x2 cannot accept the NiMH batteries. They will only run on LiIon batteries. I believe the newer segways will also only accept LiIon batteries.
