Well drats, Terry. I'm so sorry to read about your accident and sad to also see you are retiring from gliding. I remember meeting you back at seg fest 2003 and you were the nicest guy. I hope you recover as best possible, sir.

Hi Rob! It's a shame there aren't many of us early adopters still on SC, but that first SegwayFest will always be one of my most precious memories. Sounds like you're still gliding?

Just reset my "days without a segway accident" counter yesterday. It was 448 days. I had just glided into my my somewhat small office at about 5:15 AM and not paying enough attention, I ran over one of the legs on my computer chair. It threw the seg off and it lurched forward. I was surprised and leaned back, putting the seg in a full speed reverse. It went backwards into the wall, I reacted by falling full forward and it took off, I ended up flying over the handlebars, crashed into my file cabinet, jammed my thumb and sprained my left wrist somewhat, cut my head a bit. The seg ended up-eneded, two guest chairs got tossed, the trash can got dumped all over the floor, and some notebooks on my desk hit the floor and scattered their contents all over the floor.

So I am laying on the floor trying to re-assess and gain my senses after this, the office looks like it's been ransacked. After about 10 mins of laying on the floor, (I have MS and its hard to get up off the ground) I managed to pick myself up, cleaned up the office, and no-one was the wiser that it happened. I had a meeting later that morning and I had to smile as none of the other people had any idea what this office looked like about 2 hrs ago. So end result is my wrist and thumb is somewhat bruised and sore this morning, but I glided right into work, got off no problems, and it will be a fine day. After a few days, I will be as good as new. What a stupid thing to do, all self-inflicted. But it will certainly raise my awareness for a good while. I am just glad I ended up okay and with no incident. Just another day I guess.

That was SUCH an amazing time. I still get questioned about the GUI tattoo on my ankle and I get to tell the story of Segway Fest and how Dean loved it. It makes me smile big as day to tell people about that!

I just got gliding again after a long hiatus -- it's been maybe 10 years or so since I've been on one, but I just received a new miniPRO and I'm getting back in shape with gliding again. Only a few days in so far. I've missed having this kind of fun. One of these days I hope to get back into a full-sized seg but budget constraints are what they are. 😉

I'm really glad to reconnect with you here. I hope you continue to mend and heal!

I remember you showing that tattoo to Dean! Didn't you go on to work for Segway in some capacity?

I can totally visualize what you described. An out-of-control Seg in a small space can be scary. Glad you weren't hurt too bad. The important thing is that you lived to glide another day!

Thanks, Terry. That's the best way to describe it. I just got into work today, smooth sailing. I make sure that the darn chair is well out of the way now, and it went fine,a piece of cake. Live another day. Just don't do stupid things, you will live longer

I did work for the first Segway distributorship in Texas, Segway HT America. I left the company around November 2003 for greener pastures but still was a huge ambassador for the Segway in my personal life for a couple of years after.

Speaking of Segway Fest '03 -- you'll never believe what I just found (and promptly got put back on the wall). My wife and I have many posters we have collected over the years from concerts and such, so I was going through all of them this morning and found the print Segway gave us that Dean's father, Jack, signed for us at the event with Einstein on a PT!

Needless to say, Einstein is now back up on the wall in our hallway and displayed prominently as he should be! 😁😁😁

Was that the Segfest in Bonita Springs, FL? My twin brother we're at that one.

<patting myself on the back for remembering correctly>

My Einstein poster is nicely framed and hanging right here next to the computer desk, and our group picture is in the drawer. One of the attendees made a Segway CD and book that I've misplaced, but I know they're here somewhere too.
