An Opportunity!
I never met Doug but it is clear that he has contributed a lot to Segway. However, I view his departure as an opportunity for Segway to take the "Next Step" in the evolution of a wonderful product...

And this 'opportunity' to evolve didn't exist while Doug Field was head technology guy at Segway because of ..... what?

Said opportunity didn't 'Evolve' until Apple started taking a serious look into developing possible transportation solutions for their customers:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20502777/ Since this is old news, Mr. Field's recent position might imply things have further developed in that direction... Please stop trolling, John. SEGsby |

I'm not saying anything bad about Doug, I am just trying to see the bright side of this opportunity...

Its not trolling, just poking holes into senseless observations and muddy thinking.

It's like Star Trek. With Berman and Bragga at the helm, the franchise grew old and stale. Plots were recycled. The dialogue sucked. Bringing in fresh blood almost always reinvigorates a product, be it a script or a piece of technology. New minds have new ideas. That's not a dig against Doug -- just a reality.

Dig it.

My quess is that the opposite is closer to the truth. Doug probably left behind enough fresh new ideas in his files to keep Segway busy for years to come. It was the frustration of not being able see things through because of financial constrants (think Centaur) that led to his looking for greener pastures. Doug's spirit will be driving Segway's evolution for years to come.
