i2 - to - X2 Pics
Finally got all the parts together to install the off-road wheels for the winter.
There is a BIG difference in tire diameter. All done! The top speed seems higher but doesn't feel like as much as I thought it would be. The ride is very smooth with the big tires, and this thing has no problems at all jumping up onto a full size curb now. |

Very cool, thanks for the pictures. My x2 parts are still sitting in a box. I'll probably put it together for my annual trip to Quartzsite in January.

Thats awesome!... and you got the fenders on correctly. Even my dealer has one in the showroom with the fenders on backwards LOL. So this is how you get the best of both Seg's. You should lay out all the adaptors and parts it takes to switch.

Are those standard diameter X2 wheels/tyres? They look so much bigger than the i2 wheels!

I'm betting they are AT22x7-10's like mine just not a Kenda Claw product and its good to see they fit in the fender well. OH what a difference that look makes for the i2/x2. He will love the ride and versatility of the bigger tires and won't be putting that original set of tires and rims back on... this rig is not just for snow bro.

Thanks for all the positive feedback.
Currently I am running the segway x2 adapter hub and a large 1.5" adapter/spacer to get the wheels to be the correct offset. I am currently having a one piece adapter/spacer fabricated so it's all one piece. I will post pics of everything very soon (hopefully by the end of the week) with a step by step on the swap. I will also post a full parts list with prices, I was able to save tons of money by going with the non-segway brand wheels / tires etc. I can literally change back to the I2 setup in around 5mins. |

Less the mounts, fenders, adaptor, rims and tires what's left that is different in hardware on this i2 than the factory x2? Haven't you effectively built the x2 with different rims and tires? Please keep the custom wheel adaptor specifications and blueprints for future interests. Last edited by homey; 12-07-2010 at 01:09 PM.. |

Can't forgot about the software differences either...

The software for the X series takes account of the larger tire size, and limits the RPMs to keep max speed at 12.5 mph. I have always wondered if it also allowed for more energy consumption, and therefore allowed for a larger burst of torque at low end. If it does not, then how would it add the extra torque needed to get the larger tires moving up to speed? Has anyone seriously measured this factor? I wonder if the factory has the acceleration factors equalized, or is the i series faster off the line? Also, if Gareth ever does his tug of war, and actual grip was equalized, would the x series actually out torque the i series?

The LSF is different. The top of the LSF is silver and the bottom is black with an extra plate welded to the front.
Can't forgot about the software differences either... There is more to Ktrend's creation that meets the eye in a very semetrical way. I must have looked at the x2 a hundred times trying to find that sweet spot in my mind that pleases my sense of design. Owning the more compact XT sets a perminent feel for (less is more) when I view the x2. It's bigger bulkier broad stance exagerated by that spindly T-bar steering has always tripped my sense of balance and design... kinda like the nerd department took over the design engineers at Segway some years back when they built lean steer. Somehow Ktrend's build gives me a feeling of semetry I can't quite understand... you say there is some armor missing and he says adaptors are adding more width yet these pictures still look better than the stock x2and it's not just new wheels. His ground clearance should be little over 5 inches and the measurement between tire and base must be more than 1.5 inches with his spacers, still I never saw a segway look so aesthetically pleasing. So what are the software differences? I would be curious what his new overall width is compared to the stock x2 after his i2 conversion, can he get it through a front door because it looks small enough the overall width of my machine is currently 30" Last edited by homey; 12-07-2010 at 05:04 PM.. |
