@Gaye - thanks for offering your support. I think you're right about keeping it a user initiated effort - and after speaking to Segway UK this afternoon, they agree your approach is best. But I'm sure we can count on them to point people our way, once we have a URL set-up.

Sounds like Segway would need to develop a new quick release mechanism for that!

@Steven - thanks also. After making my original post, I read it through a few more times and picked up on some things I'd like to change - and what you suggest will make it even better.

All this feedback is great. Thanks all.

Any comments on a possible domain name? I thought of SegPet.co.uk or perhaps proseg.co.uk? Something short and sweet. A .co.uk will be fairly cheap too.

How about UKSEG.co.uk? As in Up Seg? Proseg sounds to much like prozac!

Prozac! Good call. UKSeg sounds a bit official - but professional.

How about simply:

www.LegaliseSegways.co.uk (and also register www.LegalizeSegways.co.uk)

I'm thinking global now, and also how people think.

Why not www.LegalizeSegway.com and www.LegaliseSegway.com?

This then becomes the one-stop shop for all our legalization battles. Can easily start with you (UK) and then more and more countries can be added. Links to countries that have authorized the sue of Segways will also help sway public opinion.

Thoughts?

I thought about that and agree a central place for the world would be good - but I was expecting to set this up myself and therefore need to keep costs down. A .co.uk costs £9.99 for two years using my preferred supplier, hosting will cost about £70. A .com costs £35. I've written the database and code to handle it.

But, that said, a central location makes sense...

Smile A sample web-page

I've attached the HTML for a one page site.

There's no formatting involved yet - I always try and get the structure and text right first. Also, I've sent Segway's webmaster an email to ask if there's any problem with me using some Segway logos, colours or anything like that. It would obviously need to have a disclaimer somewhere saying something like "Not affliated" etc.

But with the attached, you'll get an idea of a simple site.

Go to www.1and1.com. Four sites (.com, .net, .org, .info) cost $23.96 for one year (12.58 GBP).

Alternatively, their web package costs less than 60 GBP for a two year deal. This includes domain, hosting, mail, etc.

Check your e-mail. I've just sent you an offer.

Gareth,

Go on you. Go for it. But please please please don't use an apostrophe in the title of your index page (Segway's). It's a pet hate of mine - sometimes known as the 'greengrocer's apostophe' (apple's, pear's, etc etc).

Yes, my middle name is pedantic!

...meant with the best intentions,

Andy
