Default The Segway as Terminator

As a reader of Ars Technica, I saw this familiar shape in a new/ old role. I am sure you will all find it easy to recognise our friend, even if no one on Ars Technica seemed to:

http://arstechnica.co.uk/information...robots-drones/

Many years ago I remember seeing a site describing how segway robotic platforms were being used to mimic terrorist troops, moving around a desert training camp. When the 'friendlies' attacked, the robot terrorists would react to the sound of gunfire by hurtling around randomly, making them much harder targets to hit. I am not sure what if any useful lessons were learnt but now it seems the roboterrorists are having their chance at revenge.

While there are obvious self-balancing similarities to the old "terrorists who run around" devices, the technologies referred to in the Ars Technica article are much more sophisticated.
