Several questions about a recently purchased segway
Just bought this used "2015 segway I2" and want to make sure it is what it is. I saw several different styles in the room, some say Segway only on them, and some say Segway I2 on them (on the steering columns). There also seems to be 2 styles of connecting the column to the base. Some have a single column heavy attachment while others have the column split near the base into a fork like, and smaller set up. Is there a way with serial #s or something to tell if this is an SE or I2 or what? And what year? Thanks....

The quickest way to tell between an I2 and an SE is by appearance. I have both. The SE has a light at the bottom front of the leansteer, the I2 doesnt. Additionally, the way the SE leansteer mounts to the base is different from the I2. The I2's leansteer connects at the bottom to the round mount. The SE's leansteer is offset, it has a "loop" at the bottom. Once you know what to look for, they are obviously different. The center console is different also. Check out a picture of the I2 and the SE and look at the bottom of the leansteer, you can't confuse them.

So mine is an SE, since it has the light on the front (and back). Now a second question. I think I use to see these things just standing by themselves, motionless, and "self balancing" if you will. Can these do that? Is there a way to tell the year of manufacture?

The first two digits of your serial number should tell you the year of manufacture. If you bought a 2015 model, those digits should be '15'

Thank you. So if I go somewhere, like the local store, and go in to buy something, I have to shut this thing down and lean it up against a wall somewhere, or use the kick stand?

The SE models were introduced in March 2014, so it better be an SE model if they are claiming it is from 2015...

Sounds shady...
The sale sounds shady in that the seller can't answer these questions themselves or provide all accompanying documentation that comes with the machine, especially one so new.

I agree with this observation. Any owner will know the deal with their seg, what model, etc.

Yes, it indeed is an SE.
