Just did some top speed testing with a gps.
Top speed on the I2 - 12.75 Top speed on "X2" - 14.60 I honestly figured there would be a bigger difference. |

I suspect thats what i get... i'll take it somewhere on the planet there is a Segway LLC built that does not have a software governed speed control. That testing must have been FUN! I wonder at what speed you begin to outrun your balance, kinda like a helicopter outruns its lift (without foil or wing assitance of course) then it just nose dives.

I spoke with one of the engineers who did some testing before the speed limiter was software engineered.
He described the machine as leaning forward and moving faster and faster till it was nearly horizontal, (at more like a 45 degree forward) but if you went farther, you could loose your balance forward, and there would be nothing to stop you from dropping the handlebar to the ground in front of the machine. He said it was fun at first, but then more and more scary. That is pretty fast (significantly more than 12.5 mph) to be going nose first, with nothing to stop your nose from being your own cow catcher...

You can gain a bit more top speed with a 23" diameter tire (which apparently will fit) : http://forums.segwaychat.com/showpos...&postcount=194 |

Hey Pete! You go to the world's largest swapmeet in Quartzsite? I took my Segway there for a whole week a few years ago. That's a fun place to glide. It's hard to book accomodations though; I had to get a place in Blythe.

I go with an RV club and camp out in the BLM areas along with thousands of others. A lot of people bring their ATVs there for off-roading, so this year I can go out riding with them (and run into town for the vendor displays).

There are people who know and program the software, and my hats off to those guys who can go as fast as they dare on a Segway but don't. I don't think anyone has ever seen a Segway coming up in the rearview mirror on the expressway in the US... maybe in Britain LOL Homey don't think so Last edited by homey; 12-09-2010 at 11:21 AM.. |

Was bored last night.
I got about 14mph on the i2 with x2 tires. Speed limiter tripped at about 14.5mph.

I just assembled the x2 kit onto my i2 in preparation for Quartzsite this week. Wow, it's a whole different machine. My GPS showed similar results as Brad's speed above... now I'm anxious to upgrade to some 23" tires !
