Nice post
Great for you! I just found out they shut down LORAN-C early this year. I see the GPS logo on your dome! Segways are still great and the sea is always a nice place to be.
Enjoy, as I have for years! This new tech stuff is awesome. |

Thanks Teekay! I too have fond memories of Loran from my yachting days using it as a secondary navigation system between Tasmania and mainland Australia.
GPS is in everything these days - There are three GPS's mounted on the boat - Chart Plotter, Auto Leveling Trim Tab system, and the Airmar Weather station. I also have a GPS in my ditch bag, and my iPhone has a GPS. |

That is a great looking hole in the water! I miss mine. I suspect that for the most part, it is also self balancing....

Still Riding
Although my Segway and I have been hibernating during the cold winter with lots of snow here in NJ, I will be commuting to and from work again on my Segway i167 (and my Dad's that I inherited) very soon as the weather is finally turning nice.
I still lurk here form time to time but don't have much time to post. I attended Will Hopper's Mini-Fest in DC last fall and had a wonderful time. I would still love to upgrade to an i2 from my pair of i167's, but just cannot afford the differential right now.

Segway Elder
As one of the first early adopters of Segway, I rode my machine very hard the first few years in NYC and Westchester. I used it to commute between home and train station and between my shops in NYC for years. My son took over the reins and continued riding it only in NYC receiving 2 summonses( one dismissed and the other a $50.00 fine ) Even the Segway chat at the time joined in donations for the ticket. I think I got $20.00 or so. Paid the fine and never looked back.
My son & I continued to ride on the streets and sidewalks for years going through several sets of batteries. I retired from work 2 years ago. The Segway is now just a "prop" in one of our stores, more a conversation piece than anything else. I keep it insured as it greatly lowers the insurance premium on my motorcycle, which ride a lot, over 5000 miles a year. Sadly, we moved on from Segways. It is a shame that it is illegal in NYC and never got on in most urban areas. Just breezing through the Segway Chat forum for a breath of fresh air. Keep riding !!! Larry

I keep hearing that is Illegal to ride Segways in NYC which is a shame because it has so many fun places to ride! I live in Astoria Queens and everyone seem to like it fella (E167). Even police stop the cars sometimes and asks me about it. Most common question is "How much do you pay for it". It is sort of fun having people curious on the machine with real Interest. However due to the apparent illegality of Segway in NYC that have been holding me back from straying away from the area I live.
I do hope that laws can be changed and allow them in Manhattan, but now with the recent news surrounding the CEO well not sure that will be aiding that prospect... |
