Default Segway transporters now go 14mph

Well, at least the "new Ninebot ones" do.

That's interesting. Not much faster than 12.5 MPH...I wonder if this will be an issue for anyone riding from a legal standpoint (since some of the state laws for EPAMDs top out at 12.5 MPHs).

Now this link does not work. Segway has changed its website. Better revise the link for this news.

At lease for Washington State the EPAMD regulation is 20 MPH maximum.

Looks like only the one wheel Ninebot e+ is rated at 14 MPH.

My i2 normally glides in a 9 – 11 MPH range {roadside radar reader confirmed} while having lean-steer to assist at those surprise sidewalk defects has been a real benefit in preventing bodily injury. Only the newest smoothest sidewalks are comfortable at 12 MPH.

Doing 14 MPH on a typical sidewalk with a single wheel, no handle bar, machine is crazy.

I went to segway.com and confirmed the 14 mph/22 kph numbers.

Curious that the new Segway would do this. It makes the NineBot One E+ illegal as an EPAMD in most states that have EPAMD laws. In most states, the EPAMD law is the only way to legally operate a Seg, apart from on private property. The maximum design speed allowed by most states is 12.5 mph, just as Segway lobbied for originally.

Here in Michigan, the law allows for up to 15MPH.

I replaced my skinny Segway tires with motor scooter tires for a softer and faster glide. My next door neighbor, a California Highway Patrol officer, radared me at 18mph. I've had the Seg in all kinds of businesses and government buildings in Northern CA and in Reno and Las Vegas, NV with no complaints. I just don't glide at top speed in those buildings. In fact, I figure if I glide no faster than walking people stride, then it doesn't upset anyone.
