Default someone new to the world of segway

Hi I just purchased a broken segway on ebay as you do after a beer or two..... no idea whats wrong with it, what model it is or where to start. pictures attached
I plug it in and the light on the right goes green then flashes green every 3-4 seconds. the left hand led does not come on at all. does not start or do anything other than that. Can anyone help im based in the midlands UK, can this be fixed or do I have an expensive green disco light!

You have a "Gen 1" Segway, last manufactured sometime in mid 2006.

I'm not particularly Gen 1 knowledgeable, but more than likely, the issue is the batteries. Batteries MUST be kept charged as the Segway is pretty judgemental about charging batteries that are below what it considers minimum voltage. Also, old batteries lose their capabilities and may not charge, If the batteries are not good, the Seg won't charge and won't let you ride.

The batteries are the single most expensive components in a Seg. I suggest you try to contact MTOBATTERY or DGBINT on this forum for the details about how to check your batteries, and what your options are.

Here's a link to the manual http://www.segway.com/media/1921/gen...encemanual.pdf

Did you get a key or keys (funny plastic thing with what looks like a small coin in the end) with it?

If not, it's probably not practical to make it work.

Hi

You have an i180.
The last of the Series 1 machines.
When working it will be a great machine.

You seem to have the older 'standard' NiMH batteries not the newer 'extended range' Li-ion batteries.
The machine will accept either style.

I suggest your first step is to find another Segway owner nearby.
Request to use their batteries for a few minutes to verify that your machine is OK.

If yes, then proceed to battery solutions.

If no, it will be pretty expensive to repair.

Battery Solutions / options.
You need a matched pair of either NiMH batteries or Li-ion batteries.

NiMH are no longer made.
There are a few folk who open up old batteries, and put new cells in.
Unsure who in the UK might do it, certainly MTO in the USA does.

You can purchase a new set of Li-ion batteries from any Segway dealer, just be prepared for a substantial cost.

Good Luck
Michael

Hi David,

Welcome aboard!, this is a great forum!

I nearly bid myself...but I was after the two xt's.....I got 'em too.

I agree sounds like one battery is no longer communicating with segway base.

The one that is flashing should go steady freen after a couple of minutes, if not then it's too warm or at least one group of cells is high impedance.

I have two good batteries you are welcome to come and test your machine I am in Derby, if it's not too far.

I can also re-cell your battery pack. I can also supply new bms boards if required.

Pm me..

Best,

Ian
