Default Champoeg Oregon State Park Glide

A delightful park just South of Portland which is ideal for camping or day use. Paved trail takes you all the way to Historic Butteville Store (can you say "ice cream and homemade milkshakes"?)

The best place for parking for a longer day glide is on the far West end of the park (map here .pdf). The round-trip is about 8 miles if you go all the way to the store. You will want to watch the first part of the glide. Although paved, the many oak trees have pushed up sections of pavement. None will surprise you and I let a semi-novice rider take my scooter and she had no issues.

Along the way, you will pass through many different vegetation zones until the last mile(ish) where it becomes evergreen forest. At the "end" of the trail, you will need to stay to the right and follow the (BUMPY) road to the main highway. It helps to stay in the middle of the road during this brief stretch. When you approach the main road, do not cross. Turn left and follow the oncoming traffic in the (separate, blocked-from-traffic) bike lane. Enjoy a nice sandwich, shake or ice cream before heading back.

3D glide here. Just click on the "3D" button on the left side, in the directions pane.

P.S. It's pronounced sham-POO-ie

It's a wonderful park. If you are lucky. you will see Bald Eagles swooping in over the Willamette River (will-LAM-it) trying for some fresh sushi. I found a better map of the park. Just stay on the green trails and no issues. If you ever come out to Oregon, give me a shout and I can play tour guide for you.
