Segway, Inc. Sold
I've heard from two confidential sources that INC was sold this week. The consensus seems to be that it is a very good thing. I suppose the official news will break soon.

Dang! I was hoping to buy it when I struck it rich.
But I'm not rich yet. Going the wrong way, in fact. I suppose this will run up the price.

I heard it was an infusion of cash not an outright sale... We shall see...

My Dr just finally (after more than a year) will sign off disability form so I can use a Segway on the public transport system.
I really feel the Segway is due for an update. Wonder if this is a sign toward progress or demise. |

Apple's Steve Jobs was indeed critical of the first machine, but I got from the transcript of that initial unveiling that he thought its LOOKS sucked, not the technology. After all, he DID show up, which for a busy billionaire is saying something.
Add to that the fact that Doug Field et al have been hired by Apple. Add to that the fact that Steve has some substantial interests in Disney, one of the first test sites for the machine, and a company known for its "imagineering", "animatronics", etc. Add to that Segway's RMP and PUMA initiatives. I'm really guessing here but I'm thinking this cash came from Disney or even Apple. I just saw a recent photo of a Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey performance here in Tampa in which can be seen several "hands-free" Segways in amongst the clowns and elephants. I'm thinking that Steve doesn't want Segway, Inc to founder, as its technology is indeed very special.

I'm just letting random scraps of thought bleed out of my head like diarrhea here (when in Rome)...
But it seems to me that if I were a new owner of Segway my first order of business would regard this site. I'd want it shut down or I'd want my company's name the hell off of it. Pronto. Just saying. |
