i2 SE gear box noise
This is my 4th Segway .. I have a gen.1, a 2006 i2 (14,000 mi.) , a 2010 i2 (4,900 mi) .. My new i2 SE has 150 mi. and I am noticing a louder gear box noise. It's more of a higher pitch than a worn gear sound. I have replaced a gear box once before on my first i2.. The thing that bothers me the most is I can see people many yards in front of me turn around to see me behind them. I have also had one resident of a pedestrian / bike path in Newport Beach comment on hearing me coming down the walkway.
? Has there been any her gliders complaining about the new gear boxes.? I remember how quite the Gen.1 gear boxes were, I just want something that doesn't attract so much attention. Can anyone comment on this?

I vaguely remember that Segway went away from their original gearbox manufacturer for cost reasons.Certainly the i2 gearboxes were noisier than the the gen 1 boxes and the I180 I had was much noisier than the early gen 1s. Unless there is something wrong with your boxes, bad bearing or something like that, you are just a victim of this process. The earliest boxes were the quietest.

As to the result, I agree with all the above. I always wondered if that original company made the gears and assembled them, or if they just assembled them. I believe segway buys the gears and shafts, and assembles them. Perhaps the noise is a result segway buying different gears and not so much the location where the gear boxes are assembled.
