Default Questioned @ the museum

Went into the museum today and 15 minutes later a docent tells me that Segways are banned.
I tell her that it is my mobility device and question whether wheelchairs are allowed (the answer is yes). I told her I would gladly leave after we walk to the front desk and fill out a DOJ complaint form. She says she was going to call 'the office' and find out why they were banned, and to keep browsing the art. 5 minutes later the chief curator says that Segways are allowed, just that they have never seen one used by the disabled and were surprised. I was told there would be a building wide broadcast to all docents that I was in the building and was allowed to use it.

We had a marvelous day! I will keep the museum name for myself for now.

There is a lot of just plain ignorance out there, even after 25 years of ADA. Thank goodness you found one with an open mind!

Great job standing your ground, and having a teachable moment!
