I-180 handlebar repair
Just bought a Segway but the handlebar needs repaired, it is cracked all the way through but still powers up so the electronics are sound. Can some steer me in the right direction on getting it fixed?

Epoxy could help.

Look into a Marine-Tex epoxy repair kit. The stuff is very easy to mix and use, bonds nearly anything to anything and nearly impossible to break. Once it's set up, you can grind it, file it, sand it, cut it using standard wood working tools, so you can make a very professional looking, durable repair
The first time I saw it in a hardware store, they had a small section of a rubber tire carcass glued to a Coke bottle with the 'invitation' to try and break the two apart - It was there for many years and nobody had any luck separating them Don |

I would use JB Weld PlasticWeld. Make sure you get the "PlasticWeld" - not some other JB Weld product. It's available on Amazon, and perhaps from local stores.

Ooo! That's a nasty break
You may want to consider a used handlebar. You can find them on eBay nearly every day from $100 to $400. Since your electronics are good it would be a matter of swapping the parts over.
If you wanted to repair it, you'd need to remove all the electronics and wiring to access the interior. then clean, prep, reinforce with metal or fiberglass matting and epoxy it from the inside to maintain a clean exterior. The Marine-Tex epoxy recommended by Don M would likely be a good choice. I've used a similar product for aircraft repairs and had excellent results. Good luck! |
