The Segway is my newest EV - on the raods since 1996 with EVs, currently I own a modified AC driven Trabant and a mini-el series 1 (1988).
After a certain number of errors, the logs fill and you can't start the machine. At some software revision that can be done by disconnecting the handlebar connectors. If you want to reset using a computer there is a special laptop that is required. I have never seen the "software" in the wild because it needs to communicate back to Segway Inc in order to work.
