Of all the the screws on the Seg, these little hidden/recessed screws can be the biggest problem. If the allen screw sockets corrode even slightly, it can be very difficult to adequately insert the allen wrench for screw removal. See

I agree that any corrosion of gearboxes would appear to be a cosmetic issue only; I don't remember ever hearing of a mechanical problem with a gearbox due to corrosion. In fact, they seem nearly indestructible.
