Default Most likely - minor corrosion

The removal and replacement process provides a bit of abrasion to the terminals that monitor and pass the charging current to the batteries. This minor abrasion/wiping cleans the terminals enough for adequate voltages to be passed to the battery monitor system.

If the problem recurs, you may want to apply some electric contact cleaner to the connectors to provide some protection from future corrosion.
