Where and how do UK residents upgrade?

Admittedly we enlightened UK Segwayers are a tiny band of gliders but we seem to have been forgotten altogether.
If I want to upgrade my software or go for Liths it would appear from my investigations so far the unit has to be sent at least as far as Italy and possibly back to US all at HUGE cost.
Don't we from the colonies (!?) matter enough to have appropriate facilities here?

My dealer tells me he can't get any liths yet. You might want to check with your dealer if he can get liths. Otherwise you don't have to worry yet about doing a upgrade.

Let's hope that this years SegwayFest will be held in brussels, then you can do your upgrade there and we both might be able to get lith batteries.

Florin,

I am hearing the first time from a SegwayFest in Brussels. Are there any plans to have a SegwayFest?

Alex.

florin 01-08-2006 03:17 PM

Hi Socrates,

Brussels is one of the proposed locations, see for the full story this thread: http://www.segwaychat.com/forum/topi...TOPIC_ID=12541

I don't think that it will become the selected place, since it's organized by Seg America, but acording to Will, you never know. So let us keep our fingers crossed.

Kind regards,

I think that according to Steve (Desert Seg) the only European upgrades possible are through a company in (mind blank here) Spain (or Italy). It was in a thread that occurred a week or two ago.

What about BAE systems in UK
or send to Italy

Socrates 01-09-2006 04:40 AM

Hi,
it is somewhere in Italy, I don't know where exactly.
I contacted BAE Systems in UK as well, they don't offer the upgrade. But a very friendly person there is helping me to find out the italian address. As soon as I know it, I will tell it eyerybody.

Alex.

All,

L-Ion battery upgrade units have to be sent to the Segway Service Centers in Bedford or Milan, Italy and should be done via an authorized distributor / reseller.

Hi Desert Seg,
Is that Bedford in UK (she asks hopefully as I am but 60 miles from there) or Bedford somewhere else? Just to reassure you I DO know Milan is in Italy before you worry that I might be a complete 'air head'!!
Bye for now

With Bedford, Steven means the Bedford in the east coast region of the US.

Desert_Seg 01-09-2006 07:34 AM

As Alex says....unfortunately it is at the Mother ship, located so craftily in Bedford NH.

Sorry,

Steven

Gaye,
Have spent many hours on this. Unfortunatly LLC is just like many other USA based "product orientated" concerns. They have little or no interest in the way European after sales service works. After all if we have to sent our Segs all that way, why bother with the wheels and batteries? the really costly (shipping wise) items. In fact, what would be wrong with their agents just sending the mother boards for upgrading, or indeed, just exchanging them ?
All of this ended up with them referring me to their Vice President of European Marketing, who resides in Switzerland. I have spend a lot of time with him also and can say that he DOES understand our problems. Claude will give you the address etc of the Milan Segway factory and will help with the intro. Claude can be reached on 0041793008403 or E Mail Claude.leblonde@segway.com

John,

The Orange County California retail store is having it's second round of upgrading. They might be the busiest store in the US. The batteries are being shipped (by Segway Inc) on non-passenger airplanes and they should get to Europe soon. Retail stores do not have the security clearances to ship the batteries by air. Your best bet is to inquire if your retail store can arrange to have your Seg sent to Milano to receive both the upgrade and the new batteries.

Hi,

I did it yesterday! I brought my Segway to Segway of Vienna (www.segway.at) and they send it to Italy for being upgraded. I should get it back in four weeks or so.
The Li-Ions are ordered and I will receive them in six weeks.

Before this, I tried to find out the address of the service station in Italy, I mailed to Segway of Italy and to England. Segway of Italy notified Segway of Vienna about my mails. Everything about the upgrading in Europe seems to be a better secret than a secret service.

Alex.

You should be able to get upgrades quite easily from Wayne through Segway UK (www.segway-uk.net).

Hope this helps

A segway for everybody

If anyone in the UK has got two unserviceable battery packs I would be interested in buying them.

Just out of interest (because I haven't got any!) .... WHY?

midlandsman has only three posts, and is probably still on moderation delay.

So we may not be able to see his response for awhile.

In the meantime, due to his previous inquiry:

http://www.segwaychat.com/forum/topi...TOPIC_ID=12888

I would hazard a guess that he whishes to check out his charging setup (either generator or inverter) on something other than his present batteries.

Or possibly he's damaged something and wants to see if some of the bits can be replaced.

Here's a link to someone who tore apart an old pack:

http://www.segwaychat.com/forum/topi...TOPIC_ID=10133

(Looks a little challenging, doesn't it?)

midlandsman 02-07-2006 04:21 AM

Thanks for the link Bystander, you're right. Although my current batteries are fine, due to the high cost of a new set and being a bloke who is only happy when he has taken things apart to see how they work, I would like to try replacing dead cells in an old pack.So if anybody in UK has recently replaced or upgraded I would pay for the dead set.
Regards.

Found this link for cheapish cells: http://www.amondotech.com/index.asp?...S&Category=254

This is off the subject but just wondering if they are allowing Segway use in England now. I remember reading a while back on Segway Chat that an old law was still in effect that would not allow their use except on private property. Just wondering???

Thanks
Gail

Unfortunately, Segways are still illegal in the UK. Nothing has changed. But things are afoot... www.legalisesegways.co.uk.

Back on topic, Gaye should now be able to get a free upgrade from Segway UK for the recent recall.

seglander 11-21-2006 05:10 AM

Northern Ireland

For what its worth, if anyone in Northern Ireland has a machine that needs upgrading please send me an email sales@segway.ie

We are helping Wayne in the UK by doing any upgrades in Northern Ireland as it is geographically easier for us. So far I have travelled up North and upgraded 5 units but these are only the ones that I am aware of. There may be more???

The new software upgrade for the recall facilitates the use of Lithium Ions on all units except the p133.
