If you can't beat them, join them.

While diversification is often a good strategy, it's a double-edged sword. It can distract you from your goals, spread your resources too thinly, and cause you to lose focus on your market.

Wait a sec. Market? What am I thinking...

Next up, self balancing bicycle, YAY! SARCASM

You may be correct, and this is a case of not being able to beat them, so they are going along to get along...

But think training wheels.

Perhaps these extra lines of product are for those who are not able to grasp the improvements that technology has provided, and for whose who can't grow fast enough to keep up, they will have a line of products with less advancement.

Do not worry JohnM. Not everyone gets it.

Just because some people can do a thing, it does not mean we think less of those who cannot understand. This may be a case where a company is trying to give people something to focus on and use while they are trying to catch up to the rest of their clients.

Worry? Hardly.
I'm looking forward to what Segway can add to the electric assist bike market. Maybe someday they can actually be a leader in personal, green transportation.
