So I have two segway i180
 

But they are with bad batteries and have been in storage for 5 plus years as a result of my work stationing me far far away from home. But Im really wanting to get them going, so I started to research it, and I see that segway has been purchased by ninebot and now there is a mini oro segway for only 600 bucks or so.....

So my questions are

1) do you think my segways would still work, assuming I got MTO to rebuild the batts.

2) is it worth it to rebuild the batts and then get the segways fired up? Id have to find the keys etc. My main concern is the cost of batts seems to be 1400 from MTO. Is it just better to buy a mini pro?

3) what's the difference between the mini pro and the seg i180?

4) what are my possible or likely problems with my units sitting so long?

The mini pro has a 10.5 mph top speed and 14 mile range. You can almost buy three of them for the price of the i180 batteries ($499 on Amazon or at Sam's Club). Replacement mini pro batteries are $180-ish. Knee steering leaves your hands free to hold a refreshing beverage while you take in the sights.

The mini pro has smaller wheels and chassis which is good for storage and carrying the device, but the 10 inch wheels are less capable than the big wheels on full size Segways. It also rides firmly due to the 45psi in the tires.

I take it through the grass when the geese won't get off the sidewalk. And, across broken pavement most people wouldn't. It goes everywhere I need it to go. It fits my use case.

You have to weigh your local riding environment and your needs to see if the extra money is worth it to try to revive the more capable i180. Alternatively, see the "LetGo" commercials :)

Yes. And it might be worth sending them to MTO for an evaluation.

The Segway i180 is a very nice Segway PT to ride and use. The first-generation Segway PTs have a certain "directness" to them when you are riding. I liken it to driving a first-generation Mazda Miata/MX-5, compared with the latest version.

If your pair of i180s have had relatively few hours of use then they almost certainly still have years and years of life left in them. If you only need one unit to be operational, then you can keep the other one for "redundancy" - your own personal source for the ever-decreasing availability of certain replacement parts (especially CSB chargers and Turning Grips). That said, gliding is even fun with a friend, so maybe you want both units up and running :-)

Do you have NiMH or Lithium packs? If you have NiMH then I suggest you get one pair repacked (the latest cells give at least 10% more range than the packs did back in 2005). If you have Lithium packs, perhaps just take the plunge and buy a new pair?
