Don't Overlook the Obvious

Like I did. Went to start up my gen 1- i180 and got a red flashing screen. Called Dr. Marty in a panic, it thought it was the battery (btw THANK YOU). He gave me some advice. PM'd Bentbiker - he gave me advise (btw THANK YOU). Called CMonkey (btw THANK YOU), and he asked if one of my sensors was depressed - it WAS- I had a small fan sitting on the pad and the weight fooled the machine into thinking someone was standing on it, and it wouldn't start.

Now, with the fan off the segway, it starts! (hand hits forehead).

And here

I thought you had not pulled the plug out, which I do often, or use the wrong key.

And I understand how you feel. "It was just working yesterday!"

Sometimes we are our own worst enemy!

Also you need to know that if I don't ride it that day, I simply stand next to it, start it and discharge the battery for a few hours to keep it conditioned, hence there is no need to stand on it, so it didn't occur to me that the little fan was even there.

But OH - what a relief - IT - IS !

Great News

Congrats to you. Good news for a change.

Like Will, when Barry called I thought it was still plugged in. How many times have I done that? It just didn't sound like a failure based on the time frame. Good going John and David. David hit it and now Barry is smiling.

While I feel exercising the batteries is good, I can't tell how often you are doing it. I like to ride mine a day or two or until I get it down 1/3 or 1/2 and then charge it. If you are not riding for a week or two I can see running it against the wall to exercise it. I am not sure about more often.

The proof is in the pudding as they say. How old is your machine and your batteries?

How about other owners? How do others care for their batteries, especially if you can't get out and ride?

Similar problem

HAHA!!!
One of my new tour guides did this and freaked out...

He turned off the Seg i180 plugged it in and went to lunch...when he came back to start the same unit it gave him the same response.

Called me..freaking out swearing he didn't break it.

I came in on my day off lifted the comfort and base mat to find the sensor depressed and slightly stuck in the platform so i pushed the sensor released it and started. He was like YAY! lol....

Sometimes its the simple things...
