Another battery thread but with a twist! Are they dead? http://forums.segwaychat.org/showthread.php?t=33631&goto=newpost Mon, 02 Mar 2015 14:21:28 GMT Hello guys and gals. :)

It has been a while since I've charged the batteries of my i2. I need your feedback on this since something looks a bit different than usual.

I have plugged yesterday night my i2 to charge the batteries and today both lights are solid red. The plug was removed just now and plugged it back in. For less than a second the bottom light flashes green as I plug the cord, and then both lights go dead. No green and no red. Nothing at all.

Both infokeys have run out of juice so I can't tell really in what condition the i2 is if I will switch it on. By the way, could you please remind me what type of batteries do I need for the info key? I left them at home and I need to buy batteries to use them. My bad. :(

Thank you. :) ]]>

<![CDATA[Gearbox oil leak - cleaning CU boards, BSA & motors]]> http://forums.segwaychat.org/showthread.php?t=33611&goto=newpost Wed, 18 Feb 2015 17:09:43 GMT So as I was about to re-attach the batteries to my Gen 1 machine, I noticed oil coming out of the battery contacts hole in the bottom of the base... So as I was about to re-attach the batteries to my Gen 1 machine, I noticed oil coming out of the battery contacts hole in the bottom of the base unit.

Turns out that the gearbox input shaft seal can fail sometimes, dumping the contents of the gear box into the base unit. Oil has got pretty much everywhere, onto both CU boards, onto the BSA & probably into the motors though I haven't got them off yet.

I haven't powered it up. I've removed both CU boards and the BSA. And I'm waiting on my new torque wrench to turn up before I remove the gear boxes to find the culprit.

Up for any advice on cleaning the oil off the different components.

With The CU boards I'm thinking lint free cloth & possibly isopropyl alcohol.

The BSA looks like a dog to clean - reading computer enthusiasts forums, lots of people recommend cleaning circuit boards in the dish washer!! Followed by days of low heat drying. Sounds too scary to me. Are the solid state gyro chips waterproff? Anyone dismantled the BSA?

And the motors? Anyone got any insight as to whether oil will affect their performance or be dangerous?

I have other Gen 1's for spare gearboxes and motors, but I'd like to be able to clean & keep the (working prior to leak) CU boards and BSA. I don't think I can trust the boards and BSA from my other dead machines.

Software upgrade and NiMh batteries (i167) http://forums.segwaychat.org/showthread.php?t=33609&goto=newpost Wed, 18 Feb 2015 11:33:56 GMT Hi. My old i167 (gen 1) does not work - "unlocated fault". Our local dealer can't fix it up. I looked at the wires and didn't see any chaffing.

Now I wanna try to upgrade the software. But the dealer told me I won't able to use my old NiMh batteries after that.

Could you tell me, is it true or not???

Drive to ban Segways on Lake Trail fails http://forums.segwaychat.org/showthread.php?t=33608&goto=newpost Tue, 17 Feb 2015 15:12:55 GMT Good news here. Since this is in my backyard I went to the town council meeting and spoke in support of not banning Segway's in Palm Beach. If the ordinance had passed because it is Palm Beach this would have been a headline story put out on the wire.

time for an app http://forums.segwaychat.org/showthread.php?t=33604&goto=newpost Sun, 15 Feb 2015 14:52:55 GMT Not sure if this has been raised before - but don't you think its time for an app (ios - android) ?

Segway was one of the original practical (one person) vehicles - which as many of you know still works really well (with minor upgrades made to original design)

I think they are missing out a bit by not providing an app (Battery Health, Charge, Performance parameters etc) - all the main EV car manufactures provide this as do other similar self-balancing rides - so getting it "approved" can't be that hard (I know there would be safety - hacking concerns etc - but they already provide a remote - which is not bluetooth) - even as an option or add-on for existing Segways would be great.

Explore the gearbox internals http://forums.segwaychat.org/showthread.php?t=33596&goto=newpost Sun, 08 Feb 2015 21:13:08 GMT I purchased my second used x2 from a guy in Scottsdale, AZ. Last summer. It was a good example of 'buyer beware'. It was a 2011 with 266 miles. Batteries lasted only a few months and I discovered they were 2006 and 2007 batteries. I am now replacing the left side gearbox. It makes an odd rattling, scraping noise at slow speeds. I have checked the Elastomeric couplers and they are fine. The output shaft is straight. I have isolated the noise to the gearbox itself.

I am planning to disassemble the noisy gearbox to determine what the problem might be. Has anyone done this? What can I anticipate? ]]>
