Segway meets Z-Coil Shoes

This morning on the front page of the business section in the Sarasota Herald Tribune is an article entitled "Spring Comes To Town". The first four paragraphs are as follows:

'If you happen to see Tom and Janey Jacobson scooting around downtown Sarasota, you'll notice two unusual things about them.

The first is that they're traveling on Segway Human Transporters- those 21st century, gyroscopic people movers that allow pedistrians to breeze along sweltering sidewalks without breaking a sweat.

The second is that they're probably wearing space-age, high-heeled sneakers or clogs made by an Alburquerque, N.M. based company called Z-Coil.

"We're often on our feet six hours a day," said Janey Jacobson, co-owner of Florida Ever-Glides Inc., which offers Segway tours of the city. "We were looking for something to make our feet more comfortable."'



The rest of the article went on to talk about the benefits of the Z-Coil shoes. We thought it was great that they tied the furtistic shoes together with futuristic transportation. Showing how they can work together for a more efficient,safe, and comfortable way to get around is the kind of cooperation that LLC should be looking for to bring a wider legitimacy to this 'new' idea of a more efficient pedistrian... Segway LLC are you seeing this great marketing opportunity? Go for it...

One of our other members swears by his, and I recently bought a pair. I like them, and wear them most of the time, not just when gliding. When going over bumps I just lean back and let the springs absorb the shock.

The shoes were originally designed for running, so the springs should last a long time. I was quoted $36 to replace both heels (& springs) when they do wear out - and I'd guess the rubber will wear out before the springs break.

I've had a pair for four months now and I think my feet get more tired using the Z-Coil. After 4 hours of riding the Seg my feet are shot. I think my regular New Balance shoes tire my feet less.

They are a conversation piece as is the Seg but I'm not sure I am sold on the benefit of a $150 pair of shoes.

I use a common foam fatigue pad and have no problems. Trimed to fit, I could get several pads for just a few bucks.

Are $ 150.00 spring loaded shoes really doing somethng special?

I have lower back and leg problems and I have been told to check out z-coil and today to try new balance. I have seen a pair of z-coil's and they look cool, but do they elevate you sorta more towards your toes? Back in 80-81 I had a pair of shoes that looked like rows of lincoln logs that were made of gum rubber. Man, were they comfortable. Just don't see anything like that anymore. They may have been some kind of Earth Brand shoe.

Seems like the New Balance fits better with the self balance theme of the Segway, tho. But yes, I do see a possible marketing nitch there.
